Spike Chunsoft Launches Countdown Site With Video, Riddles

Spike Chunsoft launched a website titled “Hidden Bats” on Thursday with a countdown that ended on Sunday. The renewed site now features a video and a riddle for fans to solve. It is currently unclear if Spike Chunsoft is teasing a new work with the website, or if it is using the website to advertise an upcoming work. The “Bats489” video posted on the website might be a reference to AI: The Somnium Files – nirvanA Initiative, the sequel game to Kōtarō Uchikoshi’s AI: The Somnium Files game. A trailer posted in January for the game referenced a “Bats490” video that has similar images of bats. The game will launch for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Windows 10 and Steam in North America and Europe on June 24.

Goblin Slayer Manga Artist Launches hololive Virtual YouTuber Fantasy Manga

The official Twitter account for Square Enix’s Big Gangan magazine revealed on Friday that virtual YouTuber agency hololive’s hololive Alternative project is getting a serialized manga titled Holoearth Chronicles Side:E Yamato Kasо̄ Kaiitan (Holoearth Chronicles Side:E Yamato Phantasia) by Kōsuke Kurose (Goblin Slayer manga) on the Manga Up! website on Saturday. The manga will get English and Indonesian translations on the Holonometria world archive website. The translated versions are planned to coincide with the Japanese release, though the manga has not launched on Holonometria yet.

Identity V Announces Bungo Stray Dogs Crossover

The NetEase survival-horror smartphone game Identity V announced a forthcoming crossover with the Bungo Stray Dogs anime and manga series on its English Twitter account on Tuesday. The Japanese Twitter account elaborated that the crossover will take place in the latter half of 2022.

Final Symphony Final Fantasy Concert Series Returns After 4 Years

Square Enix announced on Wednesday that its Final Symphony concert series featuring music from its Final Fantasy series will return in 2023. The most recent Final Symphony concert was held in Essen, Germany in July 2019. The City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra will perform next year’s concert in Birmingham, England on April 16, 2023. The announcement notes that the concert will be a tour, though only the Birmingham concert has been announced.

Granblue Fantasy, Final Fantasy XI Crossover Event Launches

The Granblue Fantasy smartphone and browser game launched its crossover event with the Final Fantasy XI MMORPG on Monday. The event will run until May 21. Prishe is a reward unit for completing Chapter 1 Episode 3, and Lilisette is obtained by completing Chapter 3 Episode 4. Shantotto is obtainable as a summon by completing the special quests.

Netflix revealed on Monday that Polygon Pictures is animating “The Very Pulse Of The Machine” segment for the third volume of Love, Death & Robots animated anthology series. Netflix streamed a trailer (segment’s preview begins at 0:32). The third season will debut on Netflix on May 20.

The Detective Conan: Zero’s Tea Time anime ended on Monday with an announcement that the television anime of Mayuko Kanba’s Detective Conan: Hannin no Hanzawa-san (Detective Conan: The Culprit Hanzawa) manga will premiere this fall. Netflix will stream the anime worldwide.

Monster Hunter Rise Game Expansion’s Trailer Reveals Content

CAPCOM’s Digital Event stream for the Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak expansion for the Monster Hunter Rise game on Tuesday revealed new information and a trailer on Tuesday. The event unveiled three additional monsters, the Switch Skill Swap ability, Follower Quests, and more information about the Elder Dragon Malzeno. The expansion will debut for Switch and PC via Steam on June 30.

Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero Film Worldwide in Theaters This Summer

Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Entertainment announced on Tuesday that they will screen Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, the second anime film in the Dragon Ball Super franchise, in theaters worldwide this summer in both the original Japanese audio with subtitles, and with a dub. The film will be Crunchyroll’s first globally-distributed theatrical release. Crunchyroll is streaming an English-subtitled trailer for the film.

hololive VTubers Coming to Valkyrie Connect Smartphone Game on May 17

The Valkyrie Connect smartphone RPG’s English Twitter account announced on Tuesday that the hololive Virtual YouTubers Ninomae Inanis, Takanashi Kiara, Usada Pekora, and La+ Darknesss will be added to the English server as playable characters in an event starting on May 17. The four characters can be obtained for free by playing through the event story.

Hilcrhyme Returns for Peter Grill and the Philosopher’s Time Season 2’s Ending Song

The official website for Peter Grill to Kenja no Jikan Super Extra, the second season of the television anime of Daisuke Hiyama’s Peter Grill and the Philosopher’s Time (Peter Grill to Kenja no Jikan) manga, revealed on Thursday that hip-hop duo Hilcrhyme will return to perform the second season’s ending theme song “Koigokoro” (Heart in Love).

Gundam Franchise’s Annual Sales Top 100 Billion Yen for 1st Time

Bandai Namco Holdings reported on Wednesday that the Mobile Suit Gundam franchise earned 101.7 billion yen (about US$783 million) across the entire holding group’s subsidiaries in the fiscal year ending in March 2022. The Japanese version of Kadokawa’s BookWalker website has made nine works on the site available for free from Tuesday, May 10 to Monday, May 16 as part of an awareness campaign Kadokawa dubs as “Ima Koso Sensō ni Tsuite, Kangaeyō” (It’s High Time We Thought About War). The official website for The Irregular at Magic High School Reloaded Memory, Square Enix’s upcoming smartphone game for the The Irregular at Magic High School franchise, revealed on Thursday that the game will debut this summer. The game for iOS and Android will be free to play, with purchasable optional in-game items. Original novel writer Tsutomu Satou is overseeing the game’s original story. Saori Hayami and Yōko Hikasa are performing the game’s theme song “Sanzen Reloaded” (Brilliant Reloaded).

Netflix’s Resident Evil Live-Action Series’ Trailers

Netflix began streaming on Thursday trailers for its Original Series live-action adaptation of CAPCOM’s Resident Evil survival horror game franchise. The videos show the settings of New Raccoon City in 2022 and London in 2036. The series will premiere on July 14.

Report: Netflix to Add Low-Cost Streaming Tier With Ads by Year’s End

The New York Times newspaper reported on Tuesday that Netflix may introduce its lower cost, ad-supported subscription tier between October to December later this year, citing an internal company memo. In addition, the memo also mentioned that the service is planning to “crack down” on password sharing between subscribers in the same time period. Netflix CEO Reed Hastings first voiced considerations of a new ad-supported subscription tier last month, saying “Those that have followed Netflix know that I’ve been against the complexity of advertising and a big fan of the simplicity of subscription. But as much as I’m a fan of that, I’m a bigger fan of consumer choice. And allowing consumers who would like to have a lower price and are advertising-tolerant, get what they want, makes a lot of sense.”

The Demon Girl Next Door Anime’s Promo Video

TBS Animation began streaming on Friday a character promotional video for Machikado Mazoku 2-Chōme, the second season of the television anime of Izumo Ito’s The Demon Girl Next Door (Machikado Mazoku) manga, and it highlights Sakura Chiyoda, Momo’s older sister. Hisako Kanemoto plays Sakura. The anime’s official website also announced a special event with the anime’s cast that will take place at Culttz Kawasaki on February 5, 2023.
