NieR:Automata: The End of YoRHa Edition Game’s Switch Version

Square Enix revealed a new trailer on Sunday at Tokyo Game Show for it and Platinum Games’ NieR:Automata: The End of YoRHa Edition action role-playing game for Nintendo Switch. The video also previews the DLC and Switch-limited costumes available. The game will release for Switch on October 6. The Switch version will include exclusive, new costumes as well as all previously released DLC and costumes.

Rent-A-Girlfriend Anime Gets 3rd Season

The second anime season based on Reiji Miyajima’s Rent-A-Girlfriend (Kanojo, Okarishimasu) manga ended early on Saturday with an announcement that production on a third season has been green-lit. The announcement came in the form of a “Rent-A-Girlfriend Petit” short featuring the four main female characters. The anime’s official Twitter account is giving away a recording script of the second season’s 24th episode (autographed by the cast), and the cast will appear at an event for the second season next March. The first Blu-ray Disc volume for the season will bundle an early application form for tickets.

Housing Complex C Anime Streams Trailer

Adult Swim began streaming a trailer on Saturday for the Housing Complex C horror anime. Housing Complex C will premiere on October 1 at 12:00 a.m. EDT (effectively, October 2) on Adult Swim’s Toonami programming block. The anime will then stream on HBO Max the next day. It will have half-hour episodes. Adult Swim Canada will also air the anime.

My Dress-Up Darling TV Anime Gets Sequel

The official website for the television anime of Shinichi Fukuda’s My Dress-Up Darling (Sono Bisque Doll wa Koi wo Suru) manga revealed on Saturday that the anime is getting a sequel. The first anime premiered on January 9 and aired for 12 episodes. Funimation streamed the anime as it aired in Japan, and also streamed an English dub. Crunchyroll is also streaming the anime and English dub.

Cute Executive Officer Anime Gets Sequel in Early 2023

The anime of Odeko Fujii’s Cute Executive Officer (Yōjo Shachō) manga is getting a sequel that will premiere early next year. (The announcement uses a term that can mean either the New Year’s period or early spring.) The Yōjo Shachō R sequel will stream on various services. The first anime premiered on January 1, 2021. Hong Kong content distributor MediaLink Entertainment Limited streams the anime on its Ani-One YouTube channel.

Synduality Anime’s Teaser Reveals Production by 8-Bit

A live-streamed special for the television anime in Bandai Namco Entertainment, Bandai Namco Filmworks, and Bandai Spirits’ Synduality project debuted a teaser promotional video on Sunday. The video announces that the studio 8-Bit is producing the anime. The companies also announced on Tuesday the franchise’s third-person shooter game, which will launch for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (via Steam) this year.

Aniplex, DeskWorks! Preview World II World Smartphone RPG in 1st Video

The live-streamed “Aniplex x DeskWorks New RPG Introduction” special debuted the first promotional video for the companies’ World II World smartphone role-playing game during Tokyo Game Show on Saturday. Saturday’s stream introduced the game with three key phrases: single-player RPG, a main scenario that is serialized weekly (like manga), and over 160 characters. The special also introduced the story’s three main worlds, each which have been split into two polar-opposite halves.

Hunter x Hunter Manga Gets 1st New Volume After 4 Years

The official Twitter account for Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine announced on Tuesday that the 37th compiled book volume of Yoshihiro Togashi’s Hunter X Hunter manga, the series’ first new volume after about four years, will launch in Japan on November 4. The manga currently has 10 chapters (381-390) that have not yet been published in a compiled book volume.

Chainsaw Man Anime Reveals English Dub Cast, Trailer

Crunchyroll announced on Monday the English dub cast for the television anime of Tatsuki Fujimoto’s Chainsaw Man manga. The company also streamed an English trailer. Crunchyroll will screen the U.S. premiere at New York Comic Con on October 7 at 12:45 p.m. EDT. Crunchyroll will debut the English dub at the event ahead of the subtitled release. Crunchyroll will begin streaming the English dub at a later date. The anime will premiere on TV Tokyo and five other affiliated channels, as well as on Amazon Prime Video on October 11. The anime had a world premiere screening at TOHO Cinemas Roppongi Hills on Monday.

1st Attack on Titan Crossover Now Live in LifeAfter Survival Game

NetEase Games’ LifeAfter survival game launched its first crossover event with Attack on Titan last Thursday. The event, which includes a brand new stage featuring the Armored Titan and over 90 crossover items, will run until September 29. The crossover items include cosmetics such as character outfits and interior decorations. You can also use the iconic vertical maneuvering gear to fight in the air.

Modern Love Anthology Series Previews Naoko Yamada’s Anime Episode

Amazon Prime Video Japan posted a new trailer on Wednesday for its Modern Love: Tokyo ~Samazama na Ai no Katachi~ (Various Forms of Love) original anthology series, which will contain an anime episode by Naoko Yamada (K-ON!, The Heike Story, A Silent Voice). The video previews clips from each episode, including Yamada’s (at timestamp 0:43), and also previews the series’ theme song “Setting Sail ~Modern Love Tokyo~” by Awesome City Club.

Netflix Streams Pokémon Ultimate Journeys Anime on October 21

Netflix revealed on Wednesday that it will begin streaming Pokémon Ultimate Journeys: The Series, the Pokémon anime 25th season, on October 21. Pokémon Journeys: The Series premiered on TV Tokyo and its affiliates in Japan under the title Pocket Monster in November 2019, two days after the Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield games shipped worldwide. The series continues to air in Japan under that name.

The Legend of Heroes: Sen no Kiseki Northern War Anime

The official website for The Legend of Heroes: Sen no Kiseki Northern War, Tatsunoko Pro’s television anime adaptation of Nihon Falcom’s The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel (Eiyū Densetsu Sen no Kiseki) game series began streaming the first promotional video on Wednesday. The video reveals the main cast. Nihon Falcom announced the anime in March 2021 with a planned 2022 premiere, but now the anime is slated for early 2023 (although the above visual just lists a general 2023 debut).

Lupin III, Cat’s Eye Get CG Crossover Anime in 2023

TMS announced on Thursday that it is producing a new cel-shaded CG crossover anime titled Lupin III vs. Cat’s Eye, which will debut worldwide exclusively on Amazon Prime Video in 2023. The announcement did not reveal the length of the anime. The new project celebrates both the 50th anniversary of the Lupin III anime, and the 40th anniversary of Tsukasa Hojo’s Cat’s Eye manga. The anime will be set in Cat’s Eye’s original 1980s time period. The Cat’s Eye sisters are again aiming to steal three paintings that once belonged to their father, but this time, Lupin is after the same catch. But the paintings will also reveal a long-buried mystery.

The video reveals the anime’s cast and staff.

Sōkyū no Fafner Behind the Line Anime’s Video Announces January 20 Opening

The “Sōkyū no Fafner: Dead Aggressor: Heaven and Earth Opening Day Stage Greeting & Kazuki’s Birthday Celebration” event announced on Friday that the Sōkyū no Fafner Behind the Line spinoff anime will start its special advance screening run in theaters on January 20. The event also debuted a promotional video. Behind the Line is a self-contained story in one episode. The project was first promised to fans during the “Sōshi Minashiro Birthday Party 2017” event as a “peaceful spinoff.” The story of daily life takes place after the Sōkyū no Fafner: Dead Aggressor: Heaven and Earth film and before the Fafner EXODUS sequel series.

PlayStation VR2’s Video Highlights Features, Compatible Games

Sony posted a video showcasing the PlayStation VR2, the new virtual reality (VR) system for the PlayStation 5 console, on Wednesday. The video previews the PS VR2’s features, as well as some compatible games. The PS VR2 will launch in early 2023.

Anime Director Tomohiko Ito Starts 1st Manga

Anime director Tomohiko Ito and artist Mekki Kuroyama launched a new manga titled Wonder X on Kadokawa’s Comic Newtype web manga site last Friday. Ito is penning the story, while Kuroyama is drawing the art. The manga is Ito’s manga debut. Ito is perhaps best known for directing the first two seasons of the Sword Art Online anime, as well as the Sword Art Online: Ordinal Scale anime film. Ito also directed such anime as Occult Academy, Silver Spoon, and ERASED. Most recently, he directed the 2019 anime film Hello World.

Marza Animation Planet Streams ‘Samurai Frog Golf’ CG Anime Short

CG animation studio Marza Animation Planet started streaming its latest CG anime short titled “Samurai Frog Golf” on its YouTube channel on Friday. Marza Animation Planet’s original anime short film made its world premiere as an Official Selection at the SIGGRAPH 2022 Computer Animation Festival’s Electric Theater, which was held from August 8-11. “Samurai Frog Golf” then won the Best 3D Animation at the Neum Animated Film Festival in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which was held from August 27 to September 1. The anime short is also an Official Selection to several upcoming and recently-held film festivals in Japan and around the world.

JoJo, Attack on Titan Anime Writer Yasuko Kobayashi Starts New Manga

Anime scriptwriter Yasuko Kobayashi and artist Saki Nonoyama launched a new manga titled Danzai Lock (Six Wards of Punishment) in Kodansha’s Comic Days app on Tuesday. Kobayashi is penning the story, while Nonoyama is drawing the art. Kobayashi has previously written the story for the Witchblade Takeru manga, based on the Witchblade anime series, on which she was also the head writer. Kobayashi also wrote the Kamen Rider Amazons Gaiden: Hotarubi manga. Kobayashi has been penning scripts for anime since 1996 with Jigoku Sensei Nube. Her most recent works include JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure (2012-2021), Attack on Titan (2013-2019), Kakegurui, and Dororo.

BOFURI: I Don’t Want to Get Hurt, So I’ll Max Out My Defense Anime

Kadokawa announced on Tuesday that the second season of the BOFURI: I Don’t Want to Get Hurt, so I’ll Max Out My Defense. anime will now premiere in January 2023. The show was previously scheduled to premiere this year. The show’s first season will be rebroadcast starting on October 6.
